Door - four hour film challenge

Door

Plan:

The brief we were given for this piece was just to include a door. We decided that it would be a good idea to involve a door that appears to be magic. We aim to show this by the door only opening to some and not to others. On the other side of the door I thought of having a concert going on. While editing that would be fun as the music going on in the background and behind the door will change as the door opens and closes.
We hope to include a range of shots as we have just leant about 'Match-on-action'. Therefore, using one camera will be a challenge as we will have to line up the actions that happen on screens between takes.

Good:
  • sound worked well with opening and closing the door
  • Kuleshov effect

Improvement:
  • need to tighten up shots
  • more variety of shots (PoV)

Evaluation:

We struggled to match top all of the shots so for next time it would be better if two or more cameras are used rather than relying on one camera. That way, the shots will line up better and when editing, more of a choice is given as in post we can choose which shots suit better at certain moments. We didn't include a POV shot, so for next time it would look good to add one or two to help immerse the audience rather than force them out of the piece. However, the idea about the sound frequencies to change as the door opens and closes worked well.
